Hi 👋 I’m Micaiah.
I was inspired by my friend Jannik to create a digital garden of my own. I’m terrible at keeping up with this sort of thing, but I’ll do my best!
I think the part of this that is both the most enticing and terrifying is “Learning in Public”. I often feel pressure to only present the best, most put-together version of myself. This is amplified in the workplace. I hate going into a meeting unprepared.
So, I often find myself obsessively researching topics until I feel comfortable with the general ideas before I even start asking questions to someone more knowledgeable. I love the process of learning new, difficult concepts, but I think it’s about time for me to lose the desperation that I sometimes have when going about the process.
Starting this digital garden and taking notes as I’m learning is my attempt at breaking this habit. If for some reason you’re reading this, please don’t take anything I write about here as accurate. I don’t know, maybe one day I’ll add a label to these to signify that I have some clue what I’m talking about.
But for the most part this will be putting on display my lack of knowledge. Hopefully this will get me a bit more comfortable with not knowing things, and people knowing the extent of my not-knowing. Maybe it will convince someone else to do the same. More likely, no one will read this at all, and that’s okay too.
